About ADS

ADS is a private, non-profit, United Way-funded organization providing addictive disease services to residents of the Piedmont Triad and central North Carolina. ADS recognizes the social and health care cost of substance abuse. Our vision is to provide an array of culturally accessible services that promote health and wellness to individuals and families impacted by the use and abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. We reduce the impact of substance abuse in our community through delivering prevention services, education, individual and group counseling, ancillary medical services, and monitoring services for the Court. Major services include:

We contract with private employers, school systems; private schools; Area Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Abuse Authorities, and; other State and Federal agencies. We are a member of the High Point and Greensboro United Ways and are nationally accredited by CARF.

OUR STAFF

Our staff consists of an M.D.s, Clinical Psychiatrists, registered nurses, certified substance abuse counselors, health educators, certified prevention consultants, and a state certified HIV Educator utilizing a variety of treatment and prevention approaches. The agency and/or its clinicians are licensed and/or certified by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, N.C. Department of Human Resources, Division of Facility Services, N.C. Substance Abuse Professional Certification Board, the NC Council of Community Program, and the N.C. Board of Nursing.

Organizational Accomplishments

In FY 2006 accomplishments included:

  • ADS was selected to be the primary outpatient substance abuse provider in Randolph County.
  • ADS was selected as the primary provider of Prevention Services for the Sandhills Center LME (Anson, Lee, Harnett, Hoke, Moore, Montgomery, Richmond counties).
  • ADS became licensed to, and began providing Structured Transitional Housing.
  • ADS received a Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities Grant to provide additional prevention services in Alamance County.
  • Implemented procedures for TASC clients to obtain authorization for substance abuse services.
  • Six TASC staff received Certified Criminal Justice Professional status. The remaining staff became registered with the certification board and began working toward CCJP certification.
  • Two more prevention staff became certified with the NC Substance Abuse Prevention Practice Board
  • The agency was awarded State funding through Sandhills Center to provide HIV services to substance abusers in Randolph County.

New Funding Awards

  • $474,462 from the Sandhills Center LME to provide substance abuse prevention and education services in the Sandhills region.
  • $624,979 from the Sandhills Center LME to provide substance abuse outpatient treatment services in Randolph County.
  • $11,700 from the City of Greensboro for support of the Structured Transitional Housing Program.

Program Performance

Program Effectiveness: As part of a continuous quality management system ADS collects information in order to evaluate the effectiveness of its programs and identify ways to improve services and service delivery. To this end, ADS seeks input from consumers regarding how they feel the agency is helping them reach their goals. As a result of coming to ADS and going through its programs, according to consumers surveyed during FY 2006:

  • 95% reported increased knowledge of healthy behaviors and lifestyle.
  • 95% agreed to having a better understanding of the disease of addiction.
  • 93% reported that they had learned better coping skills.
  • 76% felt more hopeful and had fewer problems.
  • 91% reported that they had reduced risky behaviors.
  • 78% reported that their health had improved.

Additionally, 80% of clients that underwent Detoxification, or received either Residential Treatment or Structured Transitional Housing services successfully completed their program.
